YOUTH DAY 2017 at the
Religious Education Congress

February 23, 2017

Held at the Anaheim Convention Center, 800 West Katella Ave., Anaheim, Calif. (just across from Disneyland).

What is Youth Day?

Youth Day is held annually on the Thursday of the Religious Education Congress weekend. It is a day just for youth from many different backgrounds from throughout the Archdiocese – and beyond – to participate in a Rally, Liturgy and Workshops focused just for them.

Who May Attend?

Youth Day is designed for all students from public and Catholic schools, grades 9 through 12. NOTE: Students below the 9th grade are not allowed to participate in this event and will be refused admission. One Adult Chaperone is required for each group of 10 students (maximum), all attending the same workshop. We recommend that you add one extra Chaperone name to your first registration.

What Does Youth Day Cost?

Youth Day is separate registration and fee from the adult Congress days. The registration fee for Youth Day 2016 was $30 ($35 after the early fee deadline).

The Youth Day App!

Our updated Youth Day app is available at the AppStore for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch (requires iOS 7.0 or later). With this app, you can stay up-to-date with all Youth Day speakers, musicians and performers by following them on Twitter, viewing their websites, and even finding them on Facebook.

Youth Day is much more than just a one-day experience and this app will allow you to keep with you what each speaker and musician says long after the day is over, and check out their websites and find out how to put everything they said into action.

If you are having any technical problems with the app and would like to report a bug or have more questions, contact the developer at CGonzalez@la-archdiocese.org

New for Youth Day 2016!

For the first time, Sacred Space will be a part of the Youth Day experience. Sacred Space provides a quiet place to pray in the chapel and the opportunity to walk the labyrinth, where you can mindfully reflect on your life as you journey toward a fuller life in God. Included this year, you can pray the Stations of the Cross, focusing on the victims of human trafficking -- our modern-day slaves. You are invited to stand in prayerful solidarity with the victims. Hours for the day are from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm.

Volunteering at Youth Day

ADULT OPPORTUNITIES

Adult Volunteers -- The Youth Day staff invites any adult not chaperoning a parish or school group to be a volunteer for our event. Youth Day volunteers are assigned to a variety of positions throughout the day. This is a great way to experience Youth Day without the duties of being a chaperone – and to enjoy our event for free of charge. To volunteer for Youth Day 2017, all adults must be compliant with their Diocese’s Safe Environment policies and procedures (fingerprinting/background checks, etc.) including compliance with required Safe Environment Adult Training. Please contact your Diocesan Youth Ministry Office to find outlearn more details about your required programs. For more information about volunteering or to submit your name to be part of our team, please contact Erin Avila at layouthday@gmail.com or at (559) 259-8232. Come join the fun! We need you.

YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES

Here are some ways you can be a part of Youth Day 2017!  Please note that all young people wishing to take part in any volunteer opportunity must register for the event and attend all trainings/rehearsals with supervision. Any expenses incurred while participating in these efforts is the responsibility of the adult registering the young person.

YOUTH DAY TRAINING DAY:  There is a Training Day where all the positions listed below (except for the Arena Liturgy Choir & Band) require attendance on that day.

Spirit Squad -- A team of high-energy, dynamic high school aged youth to be part of our Spirit Squad! Throughout the day, the Spirit Squad pumps up the crowd with games and chants, promote our theme, help direct attention to social media, and transition participants to their events.

Social Media -- A team of high school-aged youth to help us populate our social media platforms during L.A. Youth Day.

Youth Day Emcee -- Our Emcees are young people in high school who introduce speakers and help with our general sessions.

Arena Liturgy Choir & Band -- Do you have a passion for music? We need youth voices and musical talent for the archdiocesan Arena Liturgy Choir and Band. Rehearsals take place for cantors, psalmist and soloists with the band. For more information, please contact Ed Archer at MystroArch@gmail.com or 661-992-0766.

Liturgical Movement -- “I’m not a dancer,” you say? Can you move your body? Can you keep time to music? Do you love God and want to praise God with your heart, spirit, mind and body? Then this ministry is for you -- both girls and boys! If you are interested, please contact Kristina Ortega at layouthday@gmail.com.
